Want to Owner Build

NSW laws for Owner Builders are designed to protect and support Owner Building. It is important you become familiar with your obligations as an Owner Builder

If you apply for an Owner Builder permit for building work valued over $12,000 you will need to complete an approved Owner Builder Course or have the approved equivalent qualifications and experience. (More information).

Why an Owner builder course? Owner Builder courses inform you about the Home Building Act, statutory and recommended insurances, licences, contracts, occupational health and safety, hazardous materials, building approval processes and other building related matter

Once you complete your Owner Builder course you should provide all relevant documentation with your permit application to your nearest Fair Trading Centre. If these meet all the necessary criteria, you can lodge your application and pay the application fee, and an owner builder permit can be issued to you while you wait.

Owner Builder Course is available on line or via correspondence.
